VHF/MFHF/SSB
Marine VHF radio is installed on all large ships and most seagoing small craft. It is also used, with slightly different regulations, on rivers and lakes. It is used for a wide variety of purposes, including summoning rescue services and communicating with harbors, locks, bridges, and marinas, and operates in the very high frequency (VHF) range, between 156 and 174 MHz, 156 and 162.025 MHz.

For any vessel sailing in the international waterways, an MF/HF radio is an important piece of equipment as it offers long-range radio communication. MF/HF radios are also a part of GMDSS, required to install a system under IMO safety regulations.
